What is irregular about abrir
Abrir conjugates like vivir in every tense: abro, abres, abre, abrimos, abrís, abren; preterite abrí, abriste, abrió. The only irregular form is the past participle abierto (not "abrido"), used in compound tenses (he abierto) and as an adjective (la puerta está abierta). For nosotros the present and the preterite are the same word: abrimos.
Conjugated the same way: cubrir, descubrir, reabrir.
Common mistakes with abrir
he abrido→he abierto
The participle is irregular. The same pattern runs through cubrir and descubrir: cubierto, descubierto.
La tienda es abierta.→La tienda está abierta.
"Open" as a state goes with estar, and the participle agrees like an adjective: abierto, abierta, abiertos, abiertas.
La puerta abrió sola.→La puerta se abrió sola.
When something opens by itself, Spanish uses the reflexive abrirse. Opening hours go without se: La tienda abre a las diez.

Las tiendas abren a las diez. The shops open at ten.
Abrí la ventana porque hacía calor. I opened the window because it was hot.
